The oldest and most attractive part of Torbole still resembles the small fishing village that originated centuries ago. Here the houses are grouped together around the small picturesque porticos and reflected in the clear waters of the lake. Nago, the spectacular gateway to Lake Garda, still looks down from above as it did when it was a sheltered stronghold at the foot of Castel Penede, keeping watch on the road from the «Valle dell’Adige» leading to the lake. The great writer Goethe enthusiastically described Torbole and its extraordinary winds as «a wonder of nature, an enchanting sight».
